Canadian James Vance set to make both his race and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship debut

Reported By Sportscar365.com

Performance Tech Motorsports has one new driver named to its Rolex 24 at Daytona lineup, with J.Vancein the No. 38 Oreca FLM09 Prototype Challenge entry.

“Last year I told my driver coach that I would be in the 24-hour last year,” Vance said. “Now it’s all happening.

“I’m so excited to be able to do this and be with Performance Tech. It’s unreal! Everyone says race day is so crazy and I can’t wait to experience it for myself.”

He raced last year in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge ST class with Compass360 Racing in one of Karl Thomson’s Honda Civic Sis. He tested for Rebel Rock Racing in one of its Porsche Caymans this weekend.

Vance is the third driver expected for the lineup, along with James French and Jerome Mee who tested for the team at this past weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 test.

At least one and potentially two more drivers are possible for this car, which finished third in the PC class in the 2014 Rolex 24.

IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe has joined the Mazda-powered SKYACTIV team for the Rolex 24-hour race at Daytona.

The Canadian driver is highly experienced at the 24-hour event, having raced for Mazda in the Prototype, GT and GX categories in the past three years. Hinchcliffe will partner Tristan Nunez, Jonathan Bomarito and Sylvain Tremblay in the number 70 Mazda SKYACTIV prototype.

“This will be my fourth year in a row with Mazda, so I think that shows how I feel about them and the level of professionalism that they show,” Hinchcliffe said. “It is a privilege and a joy to get to drive for them.”

Hinchcliffe was part of Mazda’s young driver programme and has raced in the IndyCar series for the past four years, winning three races and collecting three further podiums.

The 28-year-old has ended his three-year IndyCar relationship with Andretti Autosport and has switched to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, replacing 2014 Grand Prix of Indianapolis winner Simon Pagenaud.

“James is a great example of what the Mazda driver development programme is all about,” John Doonan, Director of Mazda Motorsports said. “James is a great young man who brings value to Mazda Motorsports on and off the track. We’re thrilled to have him with us again.”
