Houston, Texas – Mills Racing is excited to announce that Kuno Wittmer will be joining Michael Mills for the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX series.
Wittmer, a BMW of North America factory driver, will join Michael in May for the first of three events in the new, abbreviated endurance format.
“I am really looking forward to the inaugural SprintX race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.” Wittmer said. “Racing in my home country is always as nice thing, especially in front of family, friends, and representing the BMW brand.”
Michael is looking forward to the opportunity to work with the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar GTLM-Class champion and current third driver of the #100 BMW Team RLL M6 GTLM entered in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to participate with Kuno for this new series,” Michael said. “It’s a dream come true to be included in the BMW family, and we are excited to pursue a championship with Kuno and BMW behind us.”
Wittmer will lend his knowledge of the Bowmanville, Ontario track with Michael as they tackle two 60-minute races.
“I believe the BMW Z4 GT3 will be well adapted for this type of circuit, with the high downforce the car naturally produces,” Wittmer said. “Co-driving with Michael will be an honor and pretty good fit in my mind. He has demonstrated great pace, is passionate about the sport and well positioned with the series. ”
The support from BMW of North America has led to a shift in the team goals for the year, focusing on winning the Sprint X Championship instead of select sprint races throughout the season.
“I am happy and excited to see Mills Racing run the SprintX series on its inaugural season,” Victor Leleu, Motorsports Manager said. “Michael had a very successful weekend at COTA in the GTA class, showing great pace and quick adaptation to the BMW Z4 GT3. The car is fast and reliable, and Michael and Kuno will form a very strong and complementary pair. ”
Flashing back to the 2014 PWC Championship, Wittmer and Michael both took home victories in the same race in Canada, and hope to do so again this year.
The 2016 Castrol Presents Victoria Day Speedfest will be held at Canadian Tire Motosports Park on May 20-22, 2016. Live streaming broadcasts and timing will be available at www.world-challenge.com
