Canadian Tire and Scott Steckly together again

Canadian Tire is pleased to announce the renewal of their ongoing, successful sponsorship of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion, Scott Steckly.  2014 will mark the sixth straight season Canadian Tire has put its support behind Steckly – a three-time NASCAR Champion, who won titles in 2008, 2011 and 2013.  
A fan favorite, Steckly will kick-start the NASCAR season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Victoria Day SpeedFest weekend in May.

Rebel Rock Racing announces a pair of Canadians to their team for 2014


 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series

The second of the two Rebel Rock Racing Porsche 997s, No. 8 Rebel Rock Racing MBRP Performance Exhaust Porsche will be an all-Canadian racer effort with Martin Barkey from Huntsville, Ontario and co-driver Kyle Marcelli also from Ontario. Martin Barkey is the founder of MBRP Inc. Performance Exhaust that will be supporting this racing effort. He has been competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada for the past seasons and is impatient to start his first full season of CTSCC with Rebel Rock Racing.
“Joining the Rebel Rock MBRP Racing team is a real thrill for me,” said Martin Barkey. “Coming from the Porsche Cup Challenge in 2013 it was my first choice to drive a Porsche in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series. Jim Jonsin has clearly assembled a team that will contend for the Championship in 2014 with some of the best engineers, managers and crew members I have ever seen. I look forward to being a part of this team in 2014” announced Barkey.
Canada’s Kyle Marcelli has established himself as a professional racing driver and one of North America’s rising stars in professional sportscar racing across the globe. After a successful career in karts and single-seaters, Kyle made his rookie debut at the pinnacle of sportscar racing, the American Le Mans Series in 2010. Since then, Marcelli has built a reputation of being a consistent front-runner earning – six pole positions, six wins, eighteen podiums and seven fastest race laps in the prototype category. Marcelli is really pleased to join Rebel Rock Racing for 2014.
“I’m really excited to join Rebel Rock Racing MBRP team for the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season,” says the young Canadian. “After a recent successful test, the team has proven that they have the desire and ability to be a winning team. I don’t expect it will be easy, I know we’re going to have to work hard to get the results. The CTSCC series has established itself as one of the most competitive championships and for that reason I’m eager to do well” continued Marcelli.

Michael Valiante Joins Spirit of Daytona Racing for 2014

The 8Star Motorsports Corvette DP team’s loss is rival Corvette DP team Spirit of Daytona’s gain as Canadian sports car ace Michael Valiante has been signed to drive the No. 90 entry next season. He’s expected to partner with GM factory driver Richard Westbrook, whose announcement could come later in the week
SDR owner Troy Flis wasted little time securing Valiante’s services when Ricky Taylor left the team after one season to return to his father’s Wayne Taylor Racing squad, which claimed the 2013 DP title.
The vacancy at SDR aligned perfectly with Valiante’s unexpected availability. As 8Star owner Enzo Potolicchio told RACER in September, he intended to sign Rolex Series regular Valiante to drive for the team in 2014, but with recent news of 8Star’s reduced plans, the 33-year-old found himself back on the market and ready for a return to SDR where he make select appearances in 2012.
“Michael did a great job for us in 2012, and we are really excited for him to race with us full time next season,” said Flis. “I think having him back, as well as with some of the changes we are looking at for our program, we should not only come out of the box much stronger, but we will hopefully be able to develop a championship-contending campaign with our VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP. New tracks, new rules, new races – there are a ton of new challenges for us to adjust to this year and we want to be in a position to maximize our opportunity.”
Valiante echoed his team owner’s sentiments.
“I’m really happy to have the full-season program already in place and to be coming back to Spirit of Daytona Racing,” he said. “Testing with our Corvette DP is just a couple of weeks away now, and there is a lot of work to be done. So it is a good feeling to have our plans in place, and to be able to now focus on what we need to do to be ready to go at Daytona in January.”

Provided Flis is able to secure Westbrook for his third consecutive year with the team, SDR would have another rapid duo to try and improve upon their disappointing season that that drew to a close in September.
